The Palace of Sweets, a neighborhood candy store, was an actual place in the artist's youth. In this painting he remembers that nostalgic time during the Christmas season. The area homes are gaily decorated and the corner lampost is a work of art with wreath, bow and strips of twirled bunting. A wagonload of children on a holiday hayride have stopped for a bit of shopping.
