Image Notes
In looking back at my own past, some of my earliest and most profound images of burgeoning love came from the full-length animated features of Walt Disney Animation Studios. Indeed, the stories of Snow White, Cinderella and Lady (of Lady and the Tramp) all immediately come to mind as parts of that romantic procession. But of all these early depictions, Disney’s Sleeping Beauty is perhaps the one most deeply rooted in the heart. In my interpretation of this tale of young love is beginning to take hold in a woodland waltz. Princess Aurora and Prince Phillip have found each other, and the gathered forest critters bear witness to their devotion. The three good fairy Godmothers, Flora, Fauna, and Merriweather, also attend the moment and smile happily at what the future relationship holds. In Aurora and Phillip’s perfect union, love will find its way to fill and restore a kingdom. I like that image and the notion it suggests that love can, indeed, conquer all. Despite my stoic inclinations, even my heart is smiling! Thank you all for sharing my adventures in art and let’s all give salute to young love.
